DoIT works to improve cellular service at New Hall, beyond

The installation of a Neutral Host Distributed Antenna System (DAS) in the New Residence Hall Complex began last summer. The installation is nearly done, and technical testing is complete.

Eventually, the DAS will expand to improve cellular service throughout other areas of campus.

The system installed in the New Residence Hall Complex is able to work with any carrier. Verizon is the first contracted partner to sign on; its service will improve in the next few weeks.

Once one major carrier comes online, others typically follow. NIU will continue efforts to bring AT&T and the other major providers onto the university’s DAS system, and DoIT encourage members of the campus community to ask their carriers to come online.

The DAS eventually will move to the new hub being constructed near Human Resources and Document Services – near the Convocation Center – where it will improve cellular service for the whole campus.
