Northern Illinois University senior Mackenzie Roddy (San Bernardino, Calif./Cajon) and freshman Shelby Seurer (Delano, Minn./Delano) have been named the Mid-American Conference’s West Division Offensive and Co-Defensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This marks the fourth time this year Roddy has earned a player of the week award; she won the division’s offensive award Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 and won the defensive honor Oct. 6.
Meanwhile, this is the first time Seurer – who shared the honor with Central Michigan’s Kristen Reenders – has won the award in her career.
Roddy was massive offensively for the Huskies, helping NIU score a pair of MAC West wins at Ball State and Toledo. In total, she had 40 kills and a .290 attack percentage, while posting five blocks and 43.5 points.
Friday in Muncie, Roddy had 18 spikes, five blocks and a service ace to go along with a .256 hitting average to guide NIU to a 3-1 win over the Cardinals. The next day in Toledo, she tallied 22 kills and a .320 average as the Huskies claimed a 3-1 victory against the Rockets.
Seurer played a big part on NIU’s defense, helping the Huskies to a pair of wins against MAC West foes Ball State and Toledo. Between the two matches, she compiled 11 blocks and 10 kills, in addition to a .269 attack percentage.
Friday in Muncie, she had seven blocks to hold the potent Cardinal offense in check, while adding three kills and a .333 attack percentage in a 3-1 win at BSU. The next day in Toledo, Seurer had four blocks and seven spikes in a 3-1 triumph over the Rockets.
NIU caps its five-match road swing Thursday at Western Michigan before returning home Saturday to face Bowling Green in a contest broadcast on ESPN3.
