MAP-Works Fall Check-Up Survey available Nov. 1

October 30, 2014

MAP-Works1Students, it’s time for a check-up.

The MAP-Works Fall Check-Up Survey will be available from Nov. 1 to Nov. 17, and all first-year students are encouraged to participate. The information collected from the surveys helps faculty and staff determine how to better assist students overcome academic or personal challenges.

Following MAP-Works’ Fall Transition Survey, the Office of Student Academic Success noted the highest completion rate in the history of the program at NIU. Nearly 70% of students completed the Transition Survey, up 12% in previous years.

Data has shown on average that students who complete the MAP-Works survey earn higher GPAs and are more likely to continue their NIU academic career.

The results from the first MAP-Works survey indicates that there are five key issues new NIU students struggle with most:

  • Homesickness
  • Poor study habits
  • Test anxiety
  • Finances
  • Difficulty in more than one class

A link to the survey will be sent to students’ email accounts. Additionally, the survey can be accessed on the Office of Student Academic Success website. Students who participate will also receive a free NIU t-shirt.

If faculty and staff are interested in being part of the MAP-Works program, or if you would like more information, contact Randi Napientek at (815) 753-0713 or randi@niu.edu.
