University Women’s Club plan fall reception Oct. 2

September 8, 2014

University Women's ClubMembers of the University Women’s Club of NIU are making plans for the annual fall reception, scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the home of President Baker and Dana Stover, 901 Woodlawn Drive in DeKalb.

The fall reception is held early in the fall semester for members to get together and to have the opportunity to meet and greet new women faculty, staff members, and spouses of other faculty and staff members.

This is also a time to sign up for membership in the group.

The University Women’s Club is a long-standing organization that has a membership of women who are, or have been, employed at the university as faculty or staff; or women who are the spouse or family member of a current, retired or deceased faculty or staff member from NIU.

The organization is primarily for the purpose of social events that offer an opportunity to meet new friends and reacquaint with former friends and colleagues.

A wonderful part of the organization are the interest groups. These give members a chance to join a smaller, more intimate group, to focus on a special interest shared by others.

There is also a philanthropic side to this group.

It awards scholarships to NIU women students each spring who are in need of assistance to meet the financial obligations of their chosen careers. Other group assistance has been given to women’s athletic teams for team items not able to be purchased with university funds. The results from these kinds of assistance to other women has been an important gift to the recipients as well as the UWC membership.

Annual dues are $15 per year.
