Planned electrical power outage for Psychology/Computer Science Building

July 7, 2014

Photo of a plug in a wall outletTwo brief and coordinated power outages at the Psychology/Computer Science Building are scheduled Saturday, July 12, and Saturday, July 19.

Workers will install new medium-voltage cable necessary to provide continued stable electrical operations in the building.

Architecture and Engineering Services instructs occupants of the building to power down all lab equipment, computers, fax machines and any non-essential equipment prior to the outage. All HVAC systems will be powered down prior to shutting off power to the building.

The building’s emergency generator will be used while connecting to temporary generators for the remainder of the project. The generators will be carefully serviced and monitored, and have provided a reliable alternative in the past.

The scheduling and duration of these outages is as follows:

Saturday, July 12 (Connect to generators)
6 a.m. Power down
10 a.m. Power restored

Saturday, July 19 (Connect to NIU power)
6 a.m. Power down
10 a.m. Power restored

Construction superintendent Ken George, who is overseeing the project, is available at (815) 753-0388 or kjgeorge@niu.edu for any issues and questions about the planned power outages.
