What a month! From league meetings in Phoenix (where I had the chance to talk football scheduling with ADs from around the country), to MAC sessions in Cleveland, where Joe Novak was inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame, to Dallas, where I had a chance to present at the MOAA/Learfield Minority Academy, I’ve seen a LOT of airports and hotel rooms lately.
In between my travels, I was able to attend several of the NIU graduation ceremonies here at the NIU Convocation Center. Congratulations to our 46 student-athletes who graduated this May. Love seeing those familiar faces walk across the stage and go forward as proud Huskies.
The end of May means our 2014 football season ticket renewal deadline is almost here. Although the renewals are coming in at a steady pace, it’s not going to be fast enough until we hit that 100 percent mark! We set Friday, May 30 as the deadline and we need ALL of our fans to get on board. It’s a new day and deadlines WILL be observed. As I said in an earlier press conference, there will be NO FIRE SALES at NIU. We must protect the integrity and value of a season ticket. We can’t move this program forward and get things accomplished at the speed you and I are looking for without your support. We do offer a payment plan if that is a concern. We have some new faces and a new attitude in our ticket office, and Chris Radford and his team are looking forward to your call about football OR the new volleyball season ticket available in 2014. If you don’t call us, be assured we WILL call you! And it just may be a familiar voice (mine) on the phone!
There will be plenty of time to talk to me and our head coaches at any of the three stops on the Huskie Summer Circuit. We will be in Chicago on June 2nd, Rockford on June 3rd and Aurora on 4th as we bring the Huskies to YOU. We’re asking fans to COMMIT to these events in advance this year so please RSVP TODAY. At these events, you’ll hear our story, and then we hope you will go forward and tell that story and help us expand the NIU fan base. This is our chance to get in front of a portion of the nearly 200,000 Huskie alums in Chicagoland and your chance to interact one-on-one with us.
While I’ve been on the road, our staff has been hard at work. In addition to selling tickets, construction is underway on the new Coaches Club, we’ve started work on our facilities master plan, finalizing future football & basketball schedules, we’re very close to announcing our radio partner for 2014, and we’re finalizing the details for The Yard. People are excited about the new “official pregame tailgate of NIU Athletics”. We’ve got some great food vendors already on board, we’re scheduling bands and working with our campus partners on the entertainment. The Yard is going to bring new excitement to game day at Huskie Stadium. It’s one more reason to order your season tickets now and make plans to be there when we open it up for the first time on August 28th.
I’m excited about what’s happening in Huskie Athletics. The future looks bright. We need all of you with us at Huskie Stadium and all of our venues this fall.
