The State Universities Retirement System issued the following press release regarding implementation of Public Act 98-599, which deals with pension reform in the state of Illinois:
Judge Halts Implementation of PA 98-599
Circuit Court Judge John Belz has granted a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction stopping implementation of PA 98-599, the pension reform law passed on Dec. 5, 2013.
On Wednesday, the judge ruled on a lawsuit filed by several groups representing state workers and retirees, requesting that PA 98-599 be halted until Illinois courts can decide its constitutionality.
At this time, SURS has not received a copy of the order nor any memorandum opinion from the court elaborating on the details of the injunction. SURS will update its member and employer websites when it receives further information on the order.
