Laura Lucas
The Valley View Community Unit School District recently announced that Northern Illinois University alumna Laura Lucas will become the new principal of Jonas Salk Elementary School on July 1.
Lucas, who has been assistant principal at Irene King Elementary School for the past two years, has extensive teaching experience with both Valley View School District 365U and Indian Prairie School District 204.
She began her career with VVSD as an early childhood special education teacher at Pioneer Elementary School in 2003. Three years later she became a kindergarten teacher at Pioneer and then spent a year as a reading specialist at B.J. Ward Elementary and another year as a reading specialist at King before become assistant principal.
Lucas’ first teaching job after obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Education from NIU was as an early childhood inclusive education teacher at Prairie Children Preschool in District 204.
