After his second complete game shutout of the season Sunday at Western Michigan, senior Alex Klonowski (Kearney, Missouri/Kearney) was named the Mid-American Conference’s West Division Pitcher of the Week.
Klonowski previously earned the honor April 7 after his one-hit, complete game shutout performance versus Toledo.
Klonowski, a senior from Kearney, Missouri, struck out eight batters and only allowed one walk, while scattering seven hits in his 123 pitch, nine inning effort over the Broncos.
The Huskies and WMU played the first seven innings scoreless on Sunday until NIU scored one run in the top of the eighth inning off of a double by Brandon Mallder, scoring Brian Sisler from second base.
The win on Sunday improved Klonowski to 3-4 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.61 in 72.1 innings on the bump. With three complete games to his credit this season, Klonowski is allowing his opponents to hit .219 off him with a 1.15 walks and hits per inning average (WHIP).
Klonowski and the Huskies will return to action tomorrow afternoon when it heads to UIC for a 7:05 p.m. showdown with the Flames at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
