Military Student Services Connections Network

April 21, 2014

NIU Veterans Day cermony 2012Military Student Services and Off-Campus & Non-Traditional Student Services are working to collect information from faculty, staff and community partners who are currently serving, have prior military experience or are supporters of service men and women.

With more than 800 military students and dependents of veterans attending our campus, we recognize and understand the value and importance of creating a strong and significant network for our students as they transition not only into higher education, but also back into civilian life.

This information will allow us to better understand our campus demographic in regard to those who have served, and to communicate with our campus partners in a more efficient manner concerning faculty/staff training offerings, as well as student and community initiatives offered by Military Student Services.

A long-term goal of this initiative is to be able to identify campus partners who would be willing to serve as a Point of Contact (POC) or mentor to our military students.

Military students are one of the most under-supported student groups on campus and yet they have a much better chance of becoming successful in their college careers if they feel the support that many other students feel. True success of our student veterans will take a campus-wide effort. Your participation in completing this form, or sharing it with those who may be interested, will help move this process forward.

This link which will take you to our SurveyMonkey form where you can input your information as well as your desired level of involvement with our office. The survey will be open from Monday, April 21, through Friday, May 2.

Thank you for your support of the Military Student Services office here at NIU; we hope that you have the opportunity to aid us in developing this support system for our military students.
