Huskie athletes gearing up for annual Victors celebration

Victor E. Huskie says: Work. Will. Win.When NIU’s more than 400 student-athletes typically step into the spotlight, they’re dressed for competition in their cardinal-and-black uniforms.

One night a year, however, they put on their suits, ties, dresses and high-heels for an evening of celebration.

That night is Monday, April 28, at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. in downtown DeKalb. Hors d’oeuvres are served at 7 p.m.; the fun begins at 8 p.m.

The Victors is an ESPY-style awards show, which serves as an opportunity for the NIU community to come together and celebrate the athletic, academic and community successes of Huskie athletes.

Awards and other honors are presented in 18 different categories, including “Play of the Year,” “Huskie Heart,” “Unsung Hero” and to “Mr. and Ms. Victor E.”

The Victors, managed and run by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Tickets cost $20 per person and are available at (815) 753-1923. Attire for the evening is business professional.
