Northern Illinois University will host a series of financial literacy and money management workshops on campus and across DeKalb County in collaboration the DeKalb County CA$H Coalition for Money Smart Week 2014.
The week is scheduled from Saturday, April 5, through Saturday, April 12.
This year’s events include free tax preparation and filing, workshops for financial planning, budgeting and understanding credit scores and negotiating salaries among many other programs. The week of events will culminate with a presentation titled “Finding Your Inner Entrepreneur” from Nancy Lublin, CEO of DoSomeThing.org and founder of Dress for Success.
Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign to promote financial literacy across all age groups. Launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the program is now active in more than 45 states through national partnerships with the American Library Association and the Financial Planning Association.
“This year is NIU’s third year participating in Money Smart Week. We are excited that, through our partnerships with the DeKalb County CA$H Coalition, we will have over 60 free events that NIU students, faculty and staff, as well as community members, can participate in,” said Randi Napientek, assistant director of NIU’s Office of Student Academic Success and coordinator of NIU’s Money Smart Week efforts.
“We have collaborated with many organizations across the county including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits and government agencies to bring a comprehensive grouping of workshops, informational sessions and events.”
