Bridges to Employment

March 13, 2014

Bridge to Employment flierAs the number of veterans enrolling in higher education climbs, it is important to gain knowledge on this population.

Faculty, staff, community members and student veterans will have the opportunity to engage with each other in an educational seminar and networking forum.

From 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, Setting up Strategic Assets: Bridges to Employment will assemble hiring managers from the public and private sectors, upper-class and recently graduated student veterans and highly trained professionals to engage in a panel discussion educating other veterans and community members on the strengths that service members bring to future careers.

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend this event to expand their knowledge about the many potential benefits of working with service members. Whether in the classroom, departmental projects, or in research activities, veterans today are equipped to become significant assets in a number of professional and para-professional settings.

After the panel discussion, veterans will participate in a networking forum that will give them a chance to connect with and be mentored by faculty, staff, employers and community leaders to assist them in networking for their future careers. They also will have the opportunity to learn how to translate and use skills developed while serving as an asset in the work and community environment.

The panel discussion will take place in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium of the Holmes Student Center. The networking forum will be held in the Regency Room.

Registration is available online.
