Northern Illinois University women’s golfer Connie Ellett was named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced Friday.

Ellett shot a final round 75 to finish the 2014 Islander Classic with a 228 (76-77-75), good for 16th place. Her three-round total is the lowest score by a Huskie in a 54-hole event since the 1994 Illinois State Invitational and is the eighth-lowest score in NIU history for a 54-hole tournament.

The Hampshire, Ill., native helped NIU to a final round 299, the third lowest 18-hole score in school history and the lowest since the 1991 Michigan State Invitational, en route to a sixth-place finish. The Huskies’ three-round total of 922 is the second lowest score for a 54-hole tournament, besting the 924 shot at the 1991 Lady Northern Intercollegiate.

The Huskies return to the course Friday, March 7, when NIU travels to Rio Verde, Ariz., for the Rio Verde Invitational at Rio Verde Country Club. The event, which is hosted by Western Michigan begins with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. Central Time.
