Residence halls host Huskie Hot Topics

Photo of red chiliesHuskie Hot Topics is a residential education programming series sponsored by Housing & Dining to assist residential students in achieving success while at NIU.

Each program is designed to address one of the five learning outcomes as outlined in the Housing & Dining Residential Curriculum:

  • Managing personal relationships
  • Creating an inclusive climate within the community
  • Contributing responsibly to the residential and greater communities
  • Demonstrating habits that contribute to academic success
  • Identifying and implementing healthy life choices

The goal is to present to students information that will benefit them. Any student, whether a first-year student or beyond, has something to gain from attending Huskie Hot Topics.

Location: Stevenson Towers Smart Classroom
Are you participating in study sessions and faculty office hours for classes? Come out and learn tips and tricks that will make academics easier. Tips like how to read texts, how to talk to professors, and how to best participate in class will be presented.

Date: 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4
Location: HSC Carl Sandburg Auditorium
33 Minutes focuses on healthy and safer drinking. We will have several scenes for students to transition through during the evening where students will be provided information and knowledge about standard drink size, BAC limits, alcohol poisoning, bystander behavior and safer partying tips. (This event is presented in collaboration with the Office of Health Enhancement & Victim Advocacy Services.)

Date: 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19
Location: Neptune Smart Classroom
How have you begun building your network for your career? Come learn how social media can impact your future employment. Also, you will gain strategies for how to successfully network.

Mastering Money Management
Date: 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8
Location: Stevenson Towers Smart Classroom
Do you know how to plan a budget? Can you manage your personal income and expenses? Come learn how to master your money with presenters from Financial Cents.
