NIU Housing and Dining has expanded seating in Gilbert Hall.
Patronage by residents, faculty, and staff at Gilbert last semester caused a shortage of available seating during peak lunch and dinner hours. Residents and other patrons appealed to unit managers, as well as to administrators in Residential Dining, and their pleas for furniture were heard.
The facility has added approximately 50 new seats, boosting indoor seating by 30 percent.
Meanwhile, facility managers suggest attending lunch before noon or after 1 p.m. to ensure the highest amount of availability.
