A New Year, A New U

2014: A NEW YEAR. A NEW ULooking to make healthier choices this year? Start 2014 off right with Campus Recreation’s free “New Year, New U” event.

Kick start your fitness goals and New Year’s resolutions at this free event, planned from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Student Recreation Center.

All NIU faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend by bringing their  NIU OneCards.

New Year, New U offers a variety of activities and a chance to sample programs and services offered at Campus Recreation. Test out balance and climbing skills while crate-climbing in the main gym. Participate in racquetball, badminton and wallyball tournaments. Not sure how to play? Tutorials on the sports will be offered early in the evening. Representatives from equipment distributors will be on hand to demonstrate how to fully utilize the cardio and weight exercise stations; full instructions on how to utilize the new Rock Climbing Trainer at the Student Recreation Center also will be available.

Want to make a splash this year? Stop by Gabel Pool for free swim lessons and skills tests. Try out free Group Fitness classes including Body CombatTM, ZumbaTM, Spin, Pilates and 3D Abs. Visit the personal training area to get a fitness assessment from certified personal trainers and try out new specialized equipment. Try Spikeball, the new sport that is sweeping the nation, compete in the 3-Point Basketball Contest or stop by the Sport Club expo.

Those who participate in the event will be entered to win free personal training sessions, a locker or towel rental, a Group Fitness Fitpass, free entry into an Intramural Sports event and more! Share health and fitness resolution for 2014 to receive a free water bottle.
