Photo of the Holmes Student Center in winterThe Holmes Student Center has announced several spring semester programs and opportunities for NIU students.

As part of the new S.C.R.E.A.M. (Student Center Recreation, Entertainment And More) series, the Holmes Student Center, in conjunction with Campus Activities Board, will  host various student-centered events throughout the semester.

Sunday Night at the Movies

Come to the updated Carl Sandburg Auditorium for free screenings of pre-home release or recently released movies.

Titles planned so far include “Ender’s Game” at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” at  7:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16.

Check out the NIU Holmes Student Center Facebook page in late February to vote for the March and April films. Student organizations will be running concession sales with all proceeds being donated back to their organizations’ philanthropic efforts.

Live Music Mondays at the College Grind

Come out and enjoy the brand new coffee shop and cyber café – the College Grind – while taking in some great music.

Kenneth Leftridge and the Leftridge Sextet will host and perform great live jazz at 8 p.m. every Monday. Following their set, Leftridge will open the floor for a jam session.

The new College Grind is located on the main floor in place of the old computer lab. Don’t worry; the student center still has plenty of computers including the new laptop check-out option.

Other activities still being planned include a game night in the Huskies Den and an Open Mic Night in the College Grind.

SCREAM organizers also invite input and suggestions for future events. Email Dave Long, HSC operations manager, at [email protected].
