NIU students: Limited free bowl tickets available now!

Northern Illinois University is excited to announce an opportunity for NIU students to reserve FREE game tickets for the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Students are responsible for their own travel, lodging and meals. Thanks to the generous support of Divisions of Intercollegiate Athletics, Marketing & Communications and Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, NIU students can obtain free tickets by reserving one at

The NIU Huskies will take on the Utah State Aggies in the Poinsettia Bowl at 6:30 p.m. PST (8:30 p.m. CST) Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. A limited number of free NIU student tickets will be available for reservation at beginning Wednesday, Dec. 11, until all the tickets are claimed.

“We are so excited to be matching two conference division champs in this year’s game,” said Poinsettia Bowl President Bill Geppert. “While the paths each school took to get to San DiegoNIU Huskie Football fans may have differed a bit, these two teams had tremendous season and will surely put on quite a show at Qualcomm Stadium.”

The Huskies, who won the MAC West title and became the first team from the Mid-American Conference to win two games over Big Ten teams in the same season, also won seven road games in 2013 while playing games from Moscow, Idaho to Foxborough, Mass., are looking forward to this final trip of 2013, said NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier.

“It’s going to be a great game and a fantastic experience in a wonderful city,” Frazier said.

Students attending the bowl game must show their ticket receipt, which can be printed after reserving their ticket through Students can pick up their game ticket at will-call at Qualcomm Stadium and must present their NIU OneCard.

Free NIU student tickets are non-transferable.  Only NIU students can reserve these tickets.
