NIU’s wrestling team opens the month of December playing host to the Cleveland State Vikings.

The dual starts at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, inside Victor E. Court. Prior to the meet, Sycamore and Kaneland high schools grapple at 5 p.m.

“Our home match environment is going to be great this week,” said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig.

“We are going to have high schools competing before our dual and a ton of energy running through the place. The guys are fired up to be at home and ready to suit up. We are hosting a good Cleveland State squad, so we will need to get after it early and often.”

NIU gets back on the mats after having Thanksgiving off. In their last time out, the Huskies dropped a pair of duals at home to Northern Iowa (32-6) and North Dakota State (21-16). In the two matches, Gabe Morse came away with two wins, while Nick Smith, Tyler Argue, Shawn Scott and Jared Torrence each took one victory on the day.

Thursday, though, the Huskies will take on a much-improved squad in CSU. The Vikings come into the meet with a 1-2 dual record with losses to Duke and Indiana coupled with a win over Division III John Carroll. NIU is 4-0 all-time against the Vikings, with their last meeting coming in Cleveland Feb. 24, 2013, in a 26-11 NIU win. The last time the two schools met in DeKalb (Dec. 21, 2011), the Huskies scored a 38-0 shutout win.
