Northern Illinois University quarterback Jordan Lynch earned a his seventh Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor following his performance in NIU’s 35-17 win at Toledo, the league announced Monday.
Lynch’s seventh MAC West Offensive Player of the Week honor this year is a school record for league player of the week awards in a season, and is the 11th of his Huskie career.
Lynch rushed 161 yards on 28 carries and scored three second-half rushing touchdowns, and completed 17-of-22 passes for 202 yards to help clinch the Huskies’ fourth consecutive West Division title. Trailing 10-7 a halftime, Lynch, a native of Chicago, led the Huskies to four second-half touchdowns, scoring himself on runs of 12, 31 and one yards.
Lynch’s one-yard touchdown run capped a masterful 15-play, 99-yard drive to start the fourth quarter on which the Huskies were four-for-four on third-down conversions. With both of his top two receivers on the sidelines due to injury, the Mt. Carmel product found sophomore Juwan Brescacin eight times and hit eight different receivers in the game. He recorded his 11th career game with 100 rushing and 200 passing yards.
Lynch earned MAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors following a three-touchdown passing performance at Iowa in the season opener. He grabbed the honor again after racking up 424 yards of total offense against Eastern Illinois and after throwing for 207 yards and three touchdowns as he led NIU to its second Big Ten road win of the season with a 55-24 win at Purdue.
The Huskie senior signal caller picked up his fourth MAC POTW accolade after setting the NCAA and NIU record for rushing yards by quarterback with 316 at Central Michigan. He also added three rushing TDs versus the Chippewas. Lynch garnered his fifth weekly conference honor after rushing for a career-high four touchdowns and 119 yards and passing for 160 yards at UMass. He earned his sixth conference accolade after accounting for 468 yards of total offense against Ball State, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries and passing for a season-high 345 yards.
Five Huskies have garnered 13 MAC West Player of the Week honors this season.
In addition to Lynch, defensive tackle Ken Bishop picked up MAC West Defensive Player of the Week following his performances at Idaho and at UMass, while Tommylee Lewis earned offensive and special teams player of the week accolades following the Idaho and Purdue games respectively. Mathew Sims picked up his player of the week honor after hitting the game-winning field goal at Iowa in the season opener, while Cameron Stingily’s performance at Kent State gave him offensive player of the week honors.
The Huskies return to action Tuesday when NIU welcomes Western Michigan to Huskie Stadium for the final home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
