Group plans fundraising dinner for Philippines

Map of the PhillipinesThe Filipino-American Association of Northern Illinois is holding a fundraiser to assist with disaster relief efforts in response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan, which hit central Philippines on Nov. 8.

This is an unprecedented calamity and the immediate needs are for survival – food, medicine,and shelter. It is estimated that thousands of lives were lost and 600,000 people are now homeless.

A a simple Filipino meal will be served from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Oak Crest-DeKalb Area Retirement Center, 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive in DeKalb. Enter through Door 18 on the east side.

Organizers are asking for tax-deductible donation to the American Red Cross that will be earmarked for Philippine relief. Their goal is $10,000.

Those who are unable to attend but want to help can send check payable to the American Red Cross (write Philippine Relief on memo line) to Evelina Jose Cichy, 2944 Country Club Lane, DeKalb, IL 60115.
