Northern Illinois University graduate Efrain Avila Jr. of Universal City, Tex. has been appointed to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors by Gov. Rick Perry. His term expires Feb. 1, 2015. The board oversees the licensing and regulation of professional counselors in Texas.
Avila is a professional counselor at Managed Health Network Government Services. He is a member of Christian Counselors of Texas, and a former member of the American Counseling Association and Christian Association for Psychological Studies. He is also a former volunteer for the Silo Food Pantry and former chaplain of the DeKalb Police Department in Illinois. He serves in the U.S. Army Reserve. Avila received a Doctorate of Education in Counseling from Northern Illinois University in 2005.
