NIU Cares Day 2014 planning to begin

November 4, 2013

NIU Cares DayStudent Involvement & Leadership Development (SILD) is gearing up for the eighth annual NIU Cares Day.

This NIU tradition is scheduled to take place Saturday, April 12. Though this event is still a few months from now, plans are under way to convene the planning committee and to recruit volunteers to assist on the day of the event.

A preview meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Room 100 of the Campus Life Building for anyone interested in learning more about the details of the 2014 event.

Faculty and staff will have a chance to find out how they can get involved and support the event – from serving on the planning committee, to volunteering on the day of the event, to cleaning out their garages to find some items on the NIU Cares Day wish list.

Faculty and staff are essential to making NIU Cares Day a success because they help spread the word about the event and also serve as advocates for service when talking to NIU students.

SILD welcomes any new individuals who are looking for an opportunity to create a high quality experience for student volunteers by getting involved behind the scenes and at the event. The NIU Cares Day sub-committees are Community Outreach, Campus Recruitment and Logistics. Volunteers also are needed to act as project site leaders and kickoff volunteers on the day of the event.

Any individuals who are unable to attend the preview meeting but still wish to participate in the planning process, should contact Destiny McDonald, assistant director for Community Service, at dmcdonald@niu.edu by Friday, Nov. 15 with their interest.
