This year, NIU will participate in its first Dance Marathon from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Campus Recreation Center.
During the dance marathon, participants strut their stuff for eight hours straight in honor of the children. Dancers remain on their feet for the full eight hours in celebration of the total amount of funds raised. Along with the participants, families from Lurie Children’s Hospital will also participate.
To keep morale high, live dance groups and DJs will perform throughout the event. Other activities include Lurie families who will share their stories.
NIU’s Panhellenic Council is running the event in DeKalb with the assistance of other student organizations including the Public Relations Student Society of America, the School of Theatre and Dance, the Greek community and other student organizations.
The entire event is completely run by students, and 100 percent of the proceeds will directly benefit Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital.
Students can sign up online as a dance group or as an individual. Each person receives his or her own personalized page to raise money. There is a $20 registration fee per person, which includes a Dance Marathon T-shirt and food throughout the event.
