The Northern Illinois University wrestling team brings its preseason to a close Friday night at the Red/Black Dual.

The intra-squad meet starts at 7 p.m. inside the Chick Evans Field House.

“My staff and I have been impressed with how intensely these guys have competed throughout the preliminary matches,” said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. “I believe that will carry over into the finals on Friday night and, more importantly, to our first competition out in South Dakota.”

Though the Huskies return all 10 of their primary starters from last year, there will be plenty of competition at several weight classes.

Among the most hotly-contested will be 125, which features a matchup of junior Derek Elmore, last year’s primary starter at that weight, and redshirt freshman Braun Marquez, who posted a 24-9 record in 2012-13 on the open tournament circuit. In addition, 149 (Sycamore’s own Austin Culton vs. senior Rob Jillard), 157 (Andrew Morse vs. Jacob Haydock) and 165 (Trace Engelkes vs. Sam Bennett) will be classes for fans to keep an eye on.

In total, seven freshmen or redshirt freshmen will be competing in the intrasquad dual, giving the meet plenty of youth. Conversely, there are also 10 upperclassmen slated to compete Friday night.

Admission to the meet is free for all fans. Live results will also be available on Twitter @NIUScores.
