Shh! Time for mime

October 23, 2013

mimesFamilies are invited to a free mime performance at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the Recital Hall of the NIU Music Building.

“An Evening of Mime” is a collection of stories that convey the comedy and drama in people, places, and everyday objects through the movement of the body and facial expressions.

Performing are accomplished mime artists Eliot Monaco and Amanda Brown, who have performed and taught mime for a number of years throughout the Chicago area. Common to all their performances are their trademark humor, optimism and faith in the goodness of people.

The art of mime combines theater and storytelling and dates back to ancient Greece and Rome. Mime artists perform silently, using only movement to convey a wide range of emotions.

The performance is recommended for children ages 5 and older and has been made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts awarded to the NIU Community School of the Arts in September as part of the Arts Education in American Communities program.
