The Northern Illinois cross country team closes out its regular season Friday, Oct. 18, with a trip to Peoria for the Bradley Pink Classic.

The meet begins at 3 p.m. on the Newman Golf Course. NIU will run at 5:05 p.m. in the women’s 6K championship race.

“This Friday, it’s important that we establish a greater race day confidence within our team,” said NIU head coach Greg Hipp. “We have trained at a high level all fall and we’re ready for a strong performance.”

The Huskies last competed nearly three weeks ago when they ran at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota. Ali Olson paced NIU with a run of 23:04.00 on the 6K course, placing 151st in the 300-plus runner field.

Meanwhile, this weekend will be the Huskies’ last tuneup before the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday, Nov. 2, and the field is expected to be a tough one.

The competition includes in-state rivals Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, Bradley, Western Illinois and SIU Edwardsville, along with regional powers Marquette, Saint Louis and Northern Iowa. Additionally, fellow MAC members Bowling Green and Western Michigan also will use the meet as a final tune-up prior to the MAC meet.
