Chicago native and NIU student Randiss Hopkins, one of the campaign’s organizers, invites all Huskies interested in joining the effort to an informational meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in the Campus Life Building.

Among the projects in development is an “NIU Cares About Chicago Day,” which is similar to the annual NIU Cares Day that benefits DeKalb County.

Organizers hope to send between 300 and 400 students to three of Chicago’s most troubled neighborhoods to uplift the city through volunteer efforts such as cleaning, distributing care-bags, painting, planting and various other tasks.
