Tune in Wednesday (Sept. 4) during the lunch hour to WBEZ radio (91.5 FM or online) and you’ll hear Heide Fehrenbach, an NIU Board of Trustees Professor of history, talking about her research.

Fehrenbach taped the interview Tuesday with Jerome McDonnell for his global affairs program, “Worldview,” which begins at noon. WBEZ is Chicago’s National Public Radio station.

Fehrenbach, who authored the 2005 book, “Race after Hitler: Black Occupation Children in Postwar Germany and America,” will discuss the history of so-called “Brown Babies” fathered by African-American GIs and born to white German women in occupied Germany after World War II.

The discussion comes in advance a new documentary film on the topic, “Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story,” which will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at AMC Loews, 600 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. Fehrenbach also appears in that documentary.
