“I firmly believe the new site is going to allow us to do that better than ever before. is also very important to our coaches in the recruiting process, and to the thousands of people who visit every day looking for information on Huskie sports. We want to be the first stop for anyone looking for information on Northern Illinois Athletics,” he added.

“I want to thank all of the people in the department, especially in our media relations, marketing and development areas, who put a lot of time and energy into this project, going back to the spring. It’s an important first step and a great new look.”

Visitors can also easily access links to tickets and donor info in the top left and right corners of the website’s masthead. The site still contains all of the content currently available on, including previews, recaps, game notes, news, statistics, archives and more on each of NIU’s 17 sports teams.

New Features

The most obvious change with the website is the clean layout of the site and lightened look with a textured gray background, while still using the Huskies’ primary colors of Cardinal and Black throughout the site. From the front page, fans can access news, social media, video and the upcoming schedule of Huskie events with just one click. Scroll down the front page and visitors can find permanent links to Gameday Central, the Chessick Practice Center, promotions, Huskie Happenings and the new “Frazier’s Corner.”

Another new feature is the improved navigation bar. From the sports menu, visitors can find their way to each team’s home page, roster, schedule and ticket information, along with navigation to each team’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Visitors also have easy access to information on NIU’s athletic department, facilities, camps, multimedia coverage and how to donate.

As mentioned earlier, two more prominent features on the masthead are the large “Tickets” and “Donate” tabs that will make it easier for fans to support NIU Athletics.

Social Media

The Social Media tab on the front page brings up Twitter and Facebook widgets to the primary departmental accounts @NIUAthletics and NIU Huskies, respectively, so every fan can see the latest information on those platforms. The bar at the bottom of the page gives NIU fans all the latest Tweets from @NIUAthletics, along with links to buy tickets, watch YouTube videos and follow the Huskies on Facebook and Twitter. Links in the navigation bar’s sports tab also give fans direct links to follow their favorite teams on Facebook and Twitter.

Formerly known as Huskie All-Access, NIUTube is the new home of live streaming of Huskie events, along with video features on each of NIU’s 17 programs, press conferences and more. Though the name will be different, NIUTube will still be your source for live streaming of NIU football, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, baseball and softball. In the coming weeks, NIUTube will also debut new features like DVR functionality and archive video access the moment a game is complete.

NIUTube is more than just video, though. Fans also can listen to game broadcasts and the “Inside Huskie Football” radio show live. NIUTube will also have an archive of all radio broadcasts, including “NIU Weekly.”

Recruiting will soon feature a brand-new recruiting site within the website to showcase each program’s highlights, including history, facilities, staff and program success. Though still under construction, this facet of the site will be unveiled in the coming months.
