Women’s soccer reports for fall camp

August 12, 2013

Amy CarrThe Northern Illinois women’s soccer team reported Friday, Aug. 9, for camp.

Practice began Saturday, giving the Huskies six days of work until their first preseason contest versus Valparaiso. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16.

Head coach John Ross and his staff, who helped orchestrate a six-match turnaround in 2012, led the Huskies to an 8-9-2 record and a Mid-American Conference Tournament berth in only their first year in charge of the program. Ross inherited a 2-15-2 squad from 2011.

The Huskies return 22 players, including nine starters from last season and All-MAC goalkeeper Amy Carr (Hemel Hempstead, England/Townsend Church of England). Carr finished the season with an 8-8-2 record with six shutouts to her credit and a 0.89 goals against average.

Offensively, the Huskies return their top-scorer Cori Frankenberg (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East), who closed the year with four goals and assists for a total of 12 points. Frankenberg’s tallies were all game-winners, which ranked her as-high-as fourth in the country in the category during 2012.

The Huskies will open their regular season Sunday, Aug. 25, versus Eastern Illinois with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. Northern Illinois will begin its always important Mid-American Conference season Friday, Sept. 27, at Eastern Michigan and will open its home MAC slate the following week, Friday Oct. 4, versus Akron.
