NIU’s Alumni Association has a new recruit to help engage alumni and friends with their alma mater: David Haas became its new director of operations this summer.
An alumnus himself, Haas holds two degrees from NIU, a bachelor’s in marketing and a master of business administration. He says NIU prepared him well for his career which thus far has included positions with two Fortune 500 companies: Walt Disney World and Marriott International.
An advocate for engaged learning, Haas credits the start of his career with his participation in the Walt Disney World College Program which he experienced as a student at NIU. After graduation, he stayed connected to NIU through his involvement in the College of Business’ Young Professionals Network and as a member of the College of Business Experiential Learning Advisory Board.
Haas’ professional experience includes roles as destination sales executive of the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel, regional sales and product manager of NIU Conference Centers and business development manager of the central northwest regional sales office of Marriott International.
At NIU, Haas will execute strategic marketing initiatives and corporate sponsorship contracts for the Alumni Association and supervise its marketing and communications staff and special event planners. He will also act as the main liaison between the association and its external partners.
“I came to NIU with raw materials; the opportunities at NIU helped to mold my story,” Haas says. “Now, I’m thrilled to use what I learned at NIU and expand those opportunities for thousands more.”
Haas lives in Schaumburg with his wife, Micaela, and son, Nolan.
