NIU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences External Programming will offer Gay/Straight Alliance: LGBTQA Leadership and Activism, a new summer camp for students entering grades 9 through 12.
Scheduled from Sunday, July 7, through Friday, July 12, the camp represents an opportunity for lesbian-, gay-, bisexual-, transgender-, queer-, questioning- and ally-identified high school students who want to build and expand their LGBTQA advocacy skills in their schools and beyond.
“This camp represents a great opportunity for high school students to meet and interact with others seeking to be advocates promoting equality while experiencing what it is like to live on a college campus,” said Mark Pietrowski, associate director of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences External Programming.
With a curriculum that combines a foundation of history, legal rights and practical skills to be a leader, this camp will provide staff guidance and student perspectives on becoming more active in the movement towards equality.
Early registration ends Friday, June 14. Parents and students can apply for the camp online.
