NIU’s Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management recognized winners of the Huskie Heroes Bystander Awards during a May 2 ceremony.
The ceremony was held to honor students, faculty and staff for positive, active bystander behavior that contributes to NIU’s safety and a more supportive community.
The ceremony not only honored award recipients, but division staff members were also able to explain what bystander intervention education entails.
Awards given included the Huskie Hero award, which is given to any student, faculty or staff member who were noticed engaging in the act of being a positive, active bystander.
Other accolades were the Standout Student Huskie Hero Award, which recognizes one student that was exceptional in their dedication to the bystander initiative; the Standout Staff Huskie Hero Award, which recognizes one staff member that has been instrumental in the development of the bystander program; and the Standout Organization Huskie Hero Award, which recognizes a student organization that supported the bystander education initiative.
Recipients of the Huskie Hero Awards were Sheryl Frye, Christie Nagel, Caysea Nolan, Cara Prock, Ross Prolic and Mary Ziebinska.
