Faculty invited to submit proposals by May 24 for Undergraduate Research Assistant funding

May 9, 2013

Office of Student Engagement and Experiential LearningNIU’s Office of Student Engagement & Experiential Learning (OSEEL) is currently accepting proposals from faculty members who would like to host Undergraduate Research Assistants (URA) this summer or fall.

Undergraduate Research Assistants will assist a faculty mentor in a project over the course of a semester. Students gain valuable experience while helping faculty achieve their research goals for future funding and publications.

The assistant will be funded through OSEEL to work 150 hours at the rate of $10 per hour, which works out to approximately 10 hours of work per week for 15 weeks.

Last year, during the first year of the URA program, OSEEL funded approximately 65 positions with mentors who were representative of each of the colleges on campus.

Faculty proposals can be completed online. Proposals will be accepted through 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 24. Faculty will be notified of the status of their proposal in the first weeks of June for summer proposals and by the end of June for fall proposals.
