Accountancy Professor Pam Smith will present a talk, “Building Ethical Leaders,” as part of the Board of Trustees Professorship Lecture Series.

Smith’s talk begins at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, in the Lincoln Room of the Holmes Student Center.

Her comments will focus on how faculty can help students to recognize ethical challenges and make better decisions. Smith helped create the BELIEF Initiative (Building Ethical Leaders Using an Integrated Ethics Framework) for the NIU College of Business.

The innovative program has been held up as a national model for ethics education. Due largely to the program, the college is ranked second in the nation by BusinessWeek magazine for providing an ethical education to business students.

Smith was named a Board of Trustees Professor in 2010. The honor recognizes faculty who have attained international prominence in research and demonstrated  excellence in all facets of teaching.

Board of Trustees professors have demonstrated record of exceptional commitment to students, both inside of the classroom and out, and engage students in their scholarship or artistry. They have a record of service and leadership to the university.

Recipients hold the title for five years, and as part of their responsibilities must deliver a Board of Trustees Professorship Lecture as well as participate in workshops for the professional development of junior faculty.
