State of Illinois Appellate Court will convene, hear oral arguments inside NIU Law courtroom

Collage photo of law books, gavel, scales of justiceThe State of Illinois Appellate Court for the Second District will convene and hear oral arguments from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom of the NIU College of Law.

Oral arguments will be followed by an informal question-and-answer session. A reception will then be held in the Thurgood Marshall Gallery. Both rooms are in Swen Parson Hall.

Cases to be heard include:

  • Auto-Owners Insurance Company v. Merle Yocum Trucking and Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance (Insurance Coverage Action)
  • People of the State of Illinois v. Timothy S. Butorac (Operating Watercraft while Intoxicated)

Once arguments begin, the back door to the courtroom will be closed. Attendees will be allowed to enter and exit the courtroom only during the break between cases. Guests are asked to observe proper courtroom decorum – no food, hats, etc.
