‘Convo Clean Sweep’ garage sale, flea market returns for fifth year of treasures April 19, 20

Photo of Convocation Center signFive years ago, the NIU Convocation Center started the Convo’s Colossal Clean Sweep to bring the community together during tough economic times.

The “Clean Sweep” has been a success; however, the name has not.

Vendors and the community felt as though the name only caters to garage sales and not to the flea market and antique market segments. This year, the name will change to reflect flea market and garage sale.

The fifth annual Convo’s Clean Sweep Flea Market and Garage Sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 19, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20.

Admission is $2 for adults and free for children ages 6 and younger.

For those who have taken care of their spring cleaning and have some things to sell, registration is open.

Individual vendor space starts at $25 and commercial space starts at $50. Loading your things in and out of the Convo is easy with  the help of motorized vehicles, push carts and volunteers.

Registration forms and rules are available online or at the Convocation Center box office, 1525 W. Lincoln Hwy. Box office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

All registration forms must be completed and returned to the NIU Convocation Center by Monday, April 15. Fax the form to (815) 752-6801 or bring it to the box office. Park in Lot C2 and use Entrance 2.

Items prohibited from sale include, but are not limited to, guns, knives, contraband, fireworks, drugs, tires, suggestive material (such as pornography), alcohol and animals.
