The Northern Illinois women’s tennis team continued its roll through February with a 7-0 victory Saturday over the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds at the UIndy Tennis Center.

The win improved NIU’s spring dual match record to 7-1, including a perfect 6-0 mark on the road.

“We looked a little tired but the discipline was great,” said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. “That is what carried us today. We had our game plan and we stuck to it. It was good to be able to get Maria and Ilse some match experience. No rest for the weary with Butler [Sunday].

Northern Illinois swept the three doubles matches for the third time this year with the No. 1 duo of Nelle Youel and Arantza De La Torre and the No. 2 pair of Haley Dekkinga and Stephanie McDonald winning by identical 8-2 scores.

The tightest singles match of the day came at the No. 6 spot where the Huskies’ McDonald won a second-set tiebreaker to complete a 6-2, 7-6 win over Indianapolis’ Alex Covington. In addition to sweeps in the six singles and three doubles matches, NIU freshman Maria Rozo and junior Ilse Pacheco each claimed a superset (to eight games) victory in exhibition action.

Northern Illinois concludes its weekend in Indiana versus Butler Sunday at the Butler Bubble, located behind historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, at 9 a.m. (CT).
