In the spring of 2003, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center opened its doors.
Since then, the center has offered a safe space for all NIU students to find a sense of community. The staff members continue to make an impact on educating the NIU campus on LGBT topics and provide a variety of events, speakers and involvement opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community members.
As the center celebrates its 10th year, a project is under way to ensure as many as possible can contribute to the celebration.
All individuals who want to show support are invited to participate in a special photo project. Photos collected will be transformed into a new visual display in the center for new and returning patrons to see.
Those who submit photos are giving their permission for the pictures to be used in the 10th anniversary display project, which will be housed in the center and displayed at LGBT campus events this spring. Photos submitted should be in .jpg format, high resolution and at least 4 inches by 6 inches (300 dpi).
The LGBT Resource Center serves as a vital link where LGBTQ individuals can find a sense of community and everyone can learn about LGBTQ identity and culture. The center strives to create an inclusive campus community by providing support services, educational programs, advocacy and opportunities for leadership development.
