Members of NIU’s engineering faculty are always looking for ways to increase their influence on the industry.

By participating in research, working on projects and presenting those ideas in various places, these professors stay at the cutting edge of their respective fields.

Federico Sciammarella, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, will give presentation on additive manufacturing at the ASM Chicago Chapter meeting in Naperville, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 11.

“I will be discussing the different methodologies of additive manufacturing,” Sciamarella said. “I will also preview where NIU is headed with regard to its research and technology support to local industry.”

Additive manufacturing uses lasers to build parts, which helps prevent waste.

ASM is dedicated to serving the materials science and engineering profession. The organization, led by its members, allows engineering professionals to explore their interests in various areas of the industry.
