Dor Amir was named the Mid-American Conference’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Wednesday afternoon following a 4-1 weekend Feb. 1 and 2 that led the Huskies to a 3-0 weekend and a 5-1 overall record.

It is first honor of the season and second of his career.

The Tel Aviv, Israel native finished 4-1 last weekend at Boylan Tennis Center versus Dayton, Valparaiso and UIC, including a perfect 3-0 record in singles, with two of those wins coming at No. 2.

Amir had to grind out a three set victory over Dayton’s Drew Hanley to start things off last Friday, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, and followed up with another victory that afternoon over Valpo’s Chris Baum in two sets, 6-1, 7-5. In doubles, he earned an 8-2 victory with Frederic Cadieux against the Crusaders and did not finish his match in the matinee against the Flyers, finishing the contest in a 7-7 draw.

Sunday afternoon versus the Flames, Amir lost his only match of the weekend at No. 1 doubles with Cadieux, 8-5, to Alex Raa and Rahul Kamath. He bounced back in singles however, earning a  decisive decision over Alan Reifer at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4.

Amir now owns a 5-1 record this year in singles, including five-straight victories since his season-opening loss at Minnesota Jan. 20. In doubles with Cadieux, he owns a 3-2 record at No. 1.

Northern Illinois will return to the court this weekend when it hits the road to take on SIU-Edwardsville and Saint Louis.
