Program helps children develop motor skills

Photo of young girl on gymnastics parallel barNIU’s Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education will offer a motor development program for young children ages 3 to 6 from Monday, Feb. 11, through Wednesday, April 10.

Held in Anderson Hall Gym 130, the eight-week program runs from 4 to 5 p.m Mondays and Wednesdays.

This program provides young children with the opportunity to engage in developmentally appropriate and professionally guided physical activity to develop body coordination.

In addition, children will:

  • experience the fun of movement.
  • learn movement concepts.
  • develop fundamental motor skills, coordination and rhythmical abilities, along with fitness activities and games.
  • enhance brain development, learning and memory.
  • prevent obesity.

The program is directed by Clersida Garcia, specialist in the field of motor development and pedagogy. The fee is $80 per term, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is available online.
