The Northern Illinois track and field team wrapped up the Indiana Relays Saturday with several personal bests in the field and on the track.
Though they did not record any more event titles, NIU did record four more top 10 finishes on the day.
“We had solid performances on the final day of competition,” said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry.
“Our competitive efforts continue to improve. Sidra Sherrill had an outstanding performance with over a foot PR in the shot put. On the track, several ladies showed themselves to be aggressive competitors. Our mental and physical endurance gets better each week. I look forward to seeing the athletes progress over the next two weeks when we travel to Grand Valley.”
Sherrill was NIU’s standout athlete on the day, as she placed seventh in the invitational section of the shot put. The sophomore tossed a personal best 46-09.00 (14.25m), beating out Western Michigan’s Andrea Hiler and Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Sireta Roach.
Sherrill’s mark also puts her just under three feet from the school record – a 49-05.50 mark set by Ashley Morrow in 2007.
In the 5000 meters, the Huskies put two runners in the top 10. Juliane Totzke took eighth place with a 18:07.70 clip, while Leah Raffety placed ninth at 18:16.59. Claire McAuley finished in 12th with a time of 18:44.18.
Megan Gregory’s run in the 60 hurdles ended in the semi-finals when she placed 10th with a time of 8.85. The senior took fifth in the first heat, but came eight-hundredths of a second short of advancing to the finals.
Coming off her win in the 600 meters last night, Rebecca Cronin placed 15th with a 58.99 mark in the 400 meters. Julianne Cronin, Rebecca’s sister, set a new personal record by clocking in at 59.26 to place 17th, while Jenelle McCalla crossed the finish line in 20th place at 59.71.
The Huskies’ next competition will take placed Feb. 8-9, when they head to the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. Additionally, a small contingent of Huskies will compete in the Chicagoland Indoor Championships in Naperville, Ill.
