NIU School of Music professor and guitarist extraordinaire Fareed Haque will celebrate 50 years of music and performance Friday, Jan. 25, at The House Café with performance and premiere.
The jazz and classical guitar virtuoso was voted “Best World Guitarist 2009” by Guitar Player magazine, and is known for his long and distinguished career in music.
Cover charge is $8 for the general public and $6 for NIU students. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. with Bowling Night and the Pins. Soundistrict will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Haque’s MathGames! takes over at 9:30 p.m. The Bonzo Terks close out the night at 11:30 p.m.
In addition, the evening will feature the premiere of Justin McAllister’s newest work, a large mural featuring the giants of jazz. “Blessed Jazz” is a 6-foot-by-3-foot work commissioned by Edman Vargas, an avid art collector who does custom car work in Florida.
Using strictly Sharpie marker as his medium, McAllister works full-time creating his pieces in DeKalb. Actor Zac Efron owns 15 of McAllister’s works.
“Blessed Jazz” will be shown only for Haque’s 50th birthday; it will be taken down and shipped immediately after the celebration.
The House Café is located at 263 E. Lincoln Hwy. For more information, call (815) 787-9548.
