For two years running, students in the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology have been the top American team at the Society of Automotive Engineers’ (SAE) Supermileage competition in Marshall, Mich.
Each year, the team’s car has had the highest mileage of any school from the United States and third-best in the world.
This year, their vehicle got an astounding 1,169 miles per gallon and beat out teams from some of the top engineering schools from across the United States and several from Canada. The college is also ranked among the Top 70 Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs by U.S. News & World Report.
