A photo of wrapped Christmas presentsShoppers at the Barnes & Noble Store in DeKalb will be treated to a wonderful medley of music from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.

Presented by the NIU Community School of the Arts, the recital is part of the Book Fair program sponsored by the store. Money raised will be used to support the scholarship programs of the community school.

More than 60 musicians currently enrolled in lessons with the community school will perform solos and in small ensembles on Saturday afternoon. Teachers in the program also will perform.

The store, located at 2439 Sycamore Road, issues vouchers for the event; shoppers are asked to use these vouchers when making a purchase at the store or on the website. A percentage of the proceeds collected will be returned by Barnes & Noble to the community school for scholarships.

Since the scholarship program began in 1993, more than 700 students have received scholarships to pursue their study of the arts.

The NIU Community School of the Arts offers music lessons and music, art and theater classes to people of all ages in the area. For more information, calling (815) 753-1450 or email dbooth@niu.edu.
