The Northern Illinois men’s soccer team will be the No. 2 seed and face No. 3 seed West Virginia in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at 3 p.m. CT Friday, Nov. 9, in Akron, Ohio.
NIU clinched its place in the conference tournament last night (Nov. 2) with a 1-0 victory at Buffalo.
The Huskies had to wait until the conclusion of tonight’s action for their seeding to be finalized.
Akron’s 1-0 victory over Western Michigan and West Virginia’s 1-0 win at Bowling Green meant the Huskies and Mountaineers tied for second-place, each finishing conference play 4-2-1. NIU claims the number two seed ahead of West Virginia as a result of its 1-0 head-to-head victory on Oct. 27 in DeKalb.
In the other semifinal, top-seeded Akron will face No. 4 seed Bowling Green. The winners of Friday’s semifinals will meet in the MAC Tournament Final on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Northern Illinois is the defending MAC Tournament champions. The Huskies defeated Buffalo, 1-0, last season in the semifinals (Nov. 11, 2011) before knocking off Western Michigan, 1-0, in the final (Nov. 13, 2011).
