Office of Student Academic Success to hold check-up this week

October 15, 2012

Wondering where all your time went? How can you succeed in a large lecture class? The Office of Student Academic Success will be hosting a Mid-Semester Check, in the Illinois Room of the Holmes Student Center on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m and Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday’s session is for students who can’t attend the first night; the same information presented Tuesday will be presented during the Wednesday session.

Mid-Semester Check provides students the opportunity to hear about resources available to manage stress during midterm and finals week, how to improve course papers and what students need to know before renting an apartment next year. These are just a few of many topics that will be presented at the Mid-Semester Check, as representatives from Students’ Legal Assistance and University Writing Center as well as many others will be made available as well.

“This event is open to all NIU students, and they don’t need to register in advance,” says graduate student Ashleigh Spohn, who is coordinating the program for the Office of Student Academic Success. “It’s a great way for students to find out about all the support available to them to help them succeed.”

The Office of Student Academic Success was created in July of 2009 as a direct result of NIU’s 2008 Great Journeys Strategic Plan to bolster student persistence and success. The OSAS maintains collaborative relationships across campus, supports faculty objectives, encourages student use of educational resources, and leads student success efforts for the university by empowering them to achieve academic and personal goals through its comprehensive, college-wide support network.
